Literature Text

If we were written out
in a mathematics notebook
     you, my darling
     would be
the immovable, irreplaceable
     constant,
     inked in
wherever there's room
for you to be
     b e a u t i f u l.
I would be
the moody, volatile
     (variable),
hurriedly pencilled
     in messy margins.

You'd chase me
     in skittered
     scribbles
all along
the grid lines
     of our lives,

     and our love would be
     wonderf'ly
i l l o g i c a l :

     l i m i t l e s s
          -and-
               u n d e f i n e d.
(Knowing how much we both detest Math, I suppose I was only trying to make our love more powerful than the numbers that are so unforgiving on our helpless efforts.)

I fell asleep in class. I woke up and wrote this in a crazed rush, afraid I would lose what was worth waking up to write. I think I pretty much captured what I wanted, though it's still nowhere near good enough for you.

But here you go. My official retort. And just a few pretty words put together for you, for today. :) I love you!
